The 44th Göteborg Film Festival was planned as a physical event, but due to the increased spread of Covid-19 the festival will go digital, presenting an online cinematic experience. The festival’s industry programme including Nordic Film Market and TV Drama Vision, will be presented at a dynamic online platform, alongside a potential limited on-site event.
Mirja Wester, CEO, and Jonas Holmberg, Artistic Director, Göteborg Film Festival said:
”We have made this decision with a heavy heart. Göteborg Film Festival is one of the world’s largest audience film festivals and it’s the first time in the festival’s 44 year history that the festival will not take place in cinemas in January. But it is our responsibility to do everything we can to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and prioritize people’s health and safety.”
Göteborg Film Festival was already planning a parallel curated online programme, which will now be scaled up. As always, the festival will be an international manifestation for cinema and ten days of cinematic light in the Swedish winter darkness filled with premieres, immersion and lots of fantastic films from the Nordics and all over the world. This year’s selection will comprise a line-up of 50 new feature and short films as well as talks, Q&As with cast and filmmakers and more.
TV Drama Vision, Nordic Film Market, Nostradamus and a selection of the industry activities will have a digital body, presenting a dynamic online experience for industry attendees from all over the world. Alongside the digital industry programme, a potential limited on-site programme is still planned.
Cia Edström, Head of Industry, Göteborg Film Festival, said:
“This year, we will transpose our industry programmes Nordic Film Market, TV Drama Vision and the Nostradamus report into a vital digital format. As always, presenting an extensive overview of Nordic talent, new and upcoming films and drama series, creative talent as well as business news and future trends. If restrictions allow and we can guarantee a safe environment, we will announce a limited on-site TV Drama Vision and Nordic Film Market in Göteborg”
