Collaborate in educational projects

We are happy to tailor projects for a school, municipality, institution, or partner of Göteborg Film Festival. We are experienced in working with students with special needs. Many times, these students find their place in the class during the film education project.

Further down the page, you can read more about various projects we are currently running or have already completed. Many projects are supported by Skapande Skola, and we often link projects to something the students are already working on in school and that is part of the curriculum.

Feel free to get in touch with us. We often plan several years ahead, but it all depends on the project.

Why do we engage in film education?

Today, moving images have replaced text as the most important medium of communication. Young people, in particular, spend an extraordinary amount of time engaging with moving images, whether professionally produced or created by themselves. Despite this, schools dedicate significant resources to teaching young people how to express themselves and understand various types of texts, yet very little time is spent on the "grammar" of moving images.

Göteborg Film Festival's film education initiatives aim to inspire children and young people to express themselves artistically through moving images, expose them to a broader diversity of cinematic expressions, and equip them with tools to critically reflect on the moving images they watch and create. The goal is to empower children and young people to find their own voice, foster artistic development, and encourage democratic participation.

Our method is based on a combination of creating and viewing. By making films together, we aim to ignite young people's creative joy and their desire for self-expression. Through watching and discussing films, we strive to strengthen their visual literacy and establish a connection between the images we see and those we create ourselves.

We also want to enable more people to dream of becoming the directors and actors of the future. Currently, Sweden's population is not reflected in those who work professionally with film and moving images, whether in front of or behind the camera. Large groups feel unwelcome in the film industry, or even in the cinema itself. This perceived barrier is both a democratic and artistic issue. Through our work with children and young people, we aim to open that door to more people.
