Program committee

The Program Committee at the Göteborg Film Festival undertakes a global journey each year to select films to feature at the festival. Their work includes attending the world’s most prestigious film festivals and film markets, such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlin, although their scouting list is extensive. Additionally, around a thousand films are submitted annually through the festival’s open film submission process, and every single film is reviewed by the committee.

Films are chosen based on the following artistic criteria:

1. Quality – Emphasizing artistic and technical excellence.
2. Relevance – Selecting films that resonate with current societal, cultural, or cinematic trends.
3. Diversity – Showcasing a wide range of voices, perspectives, and styles.
4. Appeal – Ensuring films captivate and engage audiences.
5. Exclusivity – Prioritizing films with unique or rare storytelling and presentation.
6. Contextualization – Considering how the film aligns with the overall programming and its cultural impact.

This meticulous process ensures the festival presents a rich and varied selection of films that inspire and challenge its audience.
