Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne
2017
Directors
The Dardenne brothers are part of an exclusive group of filmmakers who have won the Palme d’Or twice—first for Rosetta (1999) and then for The Child (2005). During Göteborg Film Festival 2017, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne were awarded the festival’s Honorary Award for “their unique combination of unvarnished social realism, sublime drama, and unwavering loyalty to society’s most vulnerable.”
“We feel deeply honoured, and for us, it truly means something that this is Göteborg Film Festival’s award—it’s not from a small city where nothing significant has happened, but from an important cultural city,” they said upon learning they had won the award.
