As a polar bear guard, Olivia is responsible for the protection and guidance of a group of scientists during the dark months of the Arctic polarnight. From the base of their ship, the scientists study an unprecedented phenomenon nearby: a village of about 50 people in hibernation. Fascinated by this radical passivity during their collective slumber, Olivia increasingly questions her own vigilance.
