This year, Göteborg Film Festival Open Air expands into a two-day mini festival featuring three film screenings, DJ sets, and live performances under the open sky — all with free admission.

Friday, 21 August

The festival opens with a screening of Óliver Laxe’s acclaimed Sirât, a hypnotic and intense journey through the deserts of southern Morocco, following a father, his son, and a group of ravers as they search for his missing daughter. After the credits roll, Radio Marrakech takes over the waterfront stage and keeps the night alive with dancing under the late-summer sky.

Saturday, 22 August

Saturday begins with a matinee screening of Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, the sweeping adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s beloved novel about the family behind William Shakespeare.

In the evening, the spotlight turns to Gothenburg’s music scene with It Pays to Belong, the new documentary about cult indie band The Embassy. After the screening, the celebration continues with a DJ set by The Embassy and a live performance by Sylvie’s Head, one of Sweden’s most talked-about new indie bands.
