Nostradamus

Navigating the Future

Since 2013, the Göteborg Film Festival’s Nostradamus initiative has provided in-depth insights and projections on the future of the evolving audiovisual sector. The annual reports, written by media analyst Johanna Koljonen, offer valuable foresight for professionals, policymakers, and public agencies across Europe.

Over the past decade, the Nostradamus reports have documented the digital transformation of the film and television sectors, noting trends in new business models, distribution strategies, and audience behaviors; production volume increasing to record levels, and peaking—and the industry weathering a global pandemic (that the reports admittedly did not predict).

The Nostradamus initiative’s mission is to document and provide foresight into the near future of the industry, and to present the insights in a manner that is equally comprehensible to producers, policymakers, stars, and students. This is achieved through interviews with change-makers and people in strategic positions in the industry, and strategic analysis, supported by comprehensive research and a journalistic approach.

Under the Nostradamus umbrella, we host international seminars and sessions at Nordic Film Market and TV Drama Vision during Göteborg Film Festival, as well as, Cannes’ Marché du Film, and the European Film Market in Berlin. The project’s insights have been shared globally, from Brussels to Rio, influencing discussions at major film markets and industry think tanks, such as the EFADs Think Tank and the EFARN.
