Göteborg Film Festival

The artwork of 2022’s festival poster is created by Lap-See Lam. The core of her festival poster depicts a motif which has long been a landmark in Gothenburg – and which also illustrates the focus of 2022 year’s festival: Disorder.

Lap-see Lam has been named as one of Europe’s most promising young artists by Forbes magazine, been awarded Dagens Nyheters culture prize 2021 and has also been nominated for the international Future Generation Art Prize. Göteborg Film Festival now has the honor of introducing Lap-See Lam as Festival artist 2022.

– I’m excited to be this year’s festival artist, an honor! I haven’t worked with feature film before or posters design, it will be sort of a new challenge, Lap-See Lam says.

Lap-See Lams art is centered around chinese resturants in Sweden, which is also part of her family history. Through 3D-scanning technologies and sophisticated VR-mechanics, she explores locations which are in disintegration and investigating the relationship between culture, identity and belonging. The event poster follows the same art style as Lap-See Lams earlier work – with an emphasis on China and investigating the concept of location.

– The inspiration for my motif is the Floating Restaurant Sea Palace, it was sort of an alternative landmark which for a long time was placed at Drömmarnas kaj in Gothenburg. It has fascinated Gothenburgers and perhaps at times disrupted public order in the city. A location of cinematic qualities, which is reminiscent of the recurrent theme as well as utilizing the dragon as a symbol of the film festival, says Lap-See Lam.

Lap-See Lam was born in Stockholm in 1990, she graduated from the Royal Institute of Art in the fall of 2020 after five years of study. She has also studied art at Idun Lovén in Huddinge and her art has been displayed in Sweden as well as internationally. In the summer of 2021, she guested the Swedish public radio, sharing her artistic experience.

– Through her fascinating way of treating historical and cultural layers with social phenomena Lap-See Lam has stepped up as one of the most noteworthy artists in the country. We are incredibly happy to have her as our festival artist, Jonas Holmberg says, artistic leader at Göteborg Film Festival.
