Aftonstjärnan’s cinema in Lindholmen opened in 1915 and is the oldest operating cinema in Göteborg. In there you can also find a cosy café—perfect for a coffee and a cinnamon bun before the screening.

The association Aftonstjärnan was founded in 1892 by a group of young shipyard workers in a woodshed on Bonnabacken in Lindholmen, as an independent sobriety club. They began hosting dances and lectures with great success, and soon felt ready to construct their own meeting hall on the current site. After a fire destroyed the building in 1902, it was rebuilt the same year and still stands today.

Throughout the year, Aftonstjärnan presents both film and theatre, including several popular revues. The cinema is run by a volunteer film group in collaboration with Folkets Bio.
