Stora Teatern is situated at the beginning of Avenyn. The beautiful, richly adorned hall—complete with three balconies, ceiling paintings and a grand chandelier—remains preserved in its original form. This is the venue for the festival’s red carpet screenings, that include the possibility to enjoy a coffee or a drink before the film.

Designed by Bror Carl Malmberg and built in the Neo-Renaissance style, the theatre first opened in 1859 under the name Nya Teatern. Today, Stora Teatern is part of Göteborgs Stadsteater AB and hosts a vibrant year-round programme of guest performances spanning dance, theatre, contemporary circus and concerts.
