In Conversation: Thierry Frémaux and Ruben Östlund

It is our pleasure to welcome Thierry Frémaux, the General Delegate of the Festival de Cannes and General Director of Institut Lumière, to Göteborg for an engaging on-stage conversation. Together with director Ruben Östlund, Göteborg Film Festival’s Honorary President and two-time Palme d’Or recipient, they will delve into the exclusive talk about the current cinematic landscape and film festivals, exploring their past, present, and future.

The conversation will be moderated by Göteborg Film Festival’s Artistic Director, Jonas Holmberg, scheduled for Nordic Film Market on Wednesday, January 31 at Hotel Draken.

Works in Progress and Discovery lineup unveiled in January

Nordic Film Market 2024 will comprise a curated selection of Works in Progress of Nordic films in post-production and an extended lineup of films in development at the market’s co-production platform Discovery. The full programme will be announced in mid-January.

In 2024, the market will introduce a deepened focus on Nordic films in development, facilitating co-production opportunities and partnerships in Göteborg. This year, we will also introduce a special section with case studies, exploring innovation within new and upcoming Nordic feature projects.

The full market programme including Discovery, Works in Progress and market screenings will be held at the multiplex cinema Biopalatset daytime Thursday, February 1, and Friday, February 2.

Swedish Features in Pre-Production – Talent to Watch at Nordic Film Market

Four feature fiction films, all recipients of production support from the Swedish Film Institute’s Talent to Watch initiative for emerging talents, will be showcased at the Nordic Film Market 2024.

The Talent to Watch initiative, introduced by the Swedish Film Institute, seeks to empower and showcase emerging voices throughout Sweden. Since 2021, the programme has been supporting projects with development funds, and it has recently unveiled the chosen recipients for production support.

At Nordic Film Market, the four production funded projects will be presented in a conversation with the members of the selection committee, including director Nathalie Álvares Mesén, journalist Wanda Bendjelloul, and SVT Drama’s Head of Development Malin Nevander. The discussion will be moderated by journalist and film festival consultant Wendy Mitchell, scheduled for February 1.
