Göteborg Film Festival, the premier film festival in the Nordics, has been officially recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The winners of the festival’s Nordic Documentary Competition and Swedish Shorts Competition will now be eligible for an Oscar nomination.

Each year, Göteborg Film Festival showcases around 250 films from across the world, offering a diverse programme and awarding prestigious awards for Nordic and Swedish films, including the Nordic Competition, Nordic Documentary Competition, and Swedish Shorts Competition.

Starting with the 2025 edition, the winners of the Nordic Documentary Competition and Swedish Shorts Competition will not only receive a Dragon Award but also qualify for Oscar consideration.

The submissions to the 48th Göteborg Film Festival will close next week, on October 24, 2024.
