Animator
The Animator in focus 2019 was Igor Kovalyov. The Ukrainian animator is one of the masters of post-Soviet animation. He was a part of the founding of the first independent animation studio in Russia in 1988, has worked as an animator for The Simpsons, and directed Rugrats at the Hollywood studio Klasky/Csupo. He is most cherished for his short films for adults, which have won prizes across the globe.
At the festival, a short-film package with several of his films like Hen, His Wife, Flying Nansen and Before Love was screened. He also held a masterclass where he talked about his artistry and how he found his unique style.
