Göteborg Film Festival proudly presents the 2024 Honorary Dragon Award recipient: Ewan McGregor. The acclaimed actor will attend Göteborg Film Festival to receive the award, participate in an Actors Talk, and present the Nordic premiere of Niclas Larsson’s Mother, Couch, in which McGregor plays the leading role. The festival will also feature a retrospective showcasing some of McGregor’s most notable films.
With roles in films such as Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, and Star Wars, he established himself early on as one of the most versatile film stars of his generation. Ewan McGregor is now set to serve as the executive producer and play the lead in Paramount+ & Showtime’s A Gentleman in Moscow. Now, with around 75 film roles under his belt, McGregor is one of the most acclaimed actors of contemporary cinema.
“Ewan McGregor is an androgynous symbol of the Cool Britannia era, a romantic icon for the millennial generation, and a saber-swinging franchise holder in the pop-cultural center of the galaxy. But above all, he is an incredibly skilled artist. By mastering stylized extravagance, literary precision, and nuanced realism with the same relaxed self-evidence, Ewan McGregor has shown that he is one of the truly great actors of our time”, says Jonas Holmberg, artistic director of the Göteborg Film Festival.
Featuring in the 2024 festival programme, Mother, Couch will have its Nordic premiere at the festival and compete in Nordic Competition. Mother, Couch, directed by Swedish filmmaker Niclas Larsson, is based on Swedish author Jerker Virdborg’s novel “Mamma i soffa”, and features a cast with McGregor, Ellen Burstyn, Rhys Ifans, Lara Flynn Boyle, and F. Murray Abraham.
Ewan McGregor will receive the Honorary Award in conjunction with a screening of Trainspotting at Stora Teatern. The screening will be followed by an on stage conversation with Ewan McGregor.
