With leading roles in films such as The Piano Teacher, Elle, White Material, Things to Come, and La Cérémonie, Isabelle Huppert is one of the world’s most prominent actresses. Now, Göteborg Film Festival is delighted to welcome her to the 2024 festival with the Swedish premiere of Elise Girard’s Sidonie in Japan, where Huppert plays the lead role.
She has worked with auteurs such as Claude Chabrol, Michael Cimino, Jean-Luc Godard, Michael Haneke, and Joseph Losey. She has received awards at the European Film Awards, Golden Globes, and the Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Elle. French actress Isabelle Huppert is now one of the world’s foremost and most celebrated actresses.
She is currently starring in Elise Girard‘s drama Sidonie in Japan. Huppert plays the role of a writer who travels to Japan with her late husband’s ghost and encounters a culture and a man who rekindle her zest for life. The film will have its Swedish premiere at Göteborg Film Festival, and both Huppert and Girard will attend Göteborg in conjunction with the premiere.
“It is not without reason that Isabelle Huppert is so deeply admired by other actors. Her precise performances can be profoundly psychological, strictly intellectual, or stylized and expressive. This sharpness and versatility make her one of the very foremost practitioners of the art of acting in our time”, says Jonas Holmberg, Artistic Director at Göteborg Film Festival.
Following the premiere screening of Sidonie in Japan, Huppert will participate in a stage conversation about her career.
