The submissions of feature length fiction and documentary films to the 45th Göteborg Film Festival are now open. Deadline October 8, 2021.

The following does only apply to non-Swedish films.

Swedish feature films, documentaries and shorts can be submitted here from September 1, 2021.

How to submit your film
Many filmmakers from all over the world want to submit their films to Göteborg Film Festival – a fact that makes us grateful and proud!

For our 45th Göteborg Film Festival, January 28 – February 6, 2022, the international film submission is now open.

Submission deadline: October 8, 2021.

We take applications for:

  • Feature films available on DCP or 35mm. The length must be 50 minutes or longer.
  • Documentaries available on DCP or 35mm. The length must be 50 minutes or longer.

Please note that we do not take applications for non-Swedish short films.

To be considered for the 45th Göteborg Film Festival the submitted film must have had its first public screening after January 1, 2021.

Please note that any screening of the film in Sweden, or available to Swedish audiences online, prior to the Festival automatically disqualifies the film from participating in the Göteborg Film Festival.

All applications must be made through our website: www.goteborgfilmfestival.se.

We charge an application fee of 35 Euro. This is an administrative fee, and does not guarantee that the film will be selected. The only way to submit a film to the 45th Göteborg Film Festival is to complete the online submission form and pay the entry fee by credit card. The entry fee is non-refundable.

Both the preview copy submitted and the exhibition DCP or 35mm print must be subtitled in English (if the original dialogue is not entirely in English).

Unfortunately Göteborg Film Festival doesn’t have the possibility to return submitted DVD’s, hard drives or other materials, or to leave detailed feedback on your film other than accepted/not accepted. The program committee’s decision of accepted/not accepted will be announced to all applicants on December 15, 2021 or earlier.

If your film corresponds with the above mentioned criterions, you are most welcome to submit to our up-coming 45th Göteborg Film Festival.

Göteborg Film Festival has four competitions for features and documentaries:

  • Ingmar Bergman Competition – open for feature films by first and second time directors.
  • International Competition – open for non-Nordic feature films and documentaries
  • Nordic Competition – open for feature films from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark.
  • Nordic Documentary Competition – open for documentaries from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark.

The festival also presents an extensive non-competitive program with several sections and special focus programs.
