Shaping Landscapes and Moving Mountains
– Welcome to TV Drama Vision 2019

Redrawing the maps of the changing landscape of international TV drama and tracking the swift changes in the commissioners’ wish lists is the main focus of this year’s edition of TV Drama Vision. Which stories and business models will shape the coming changes and cut through the noise to push the limits further?

What are the TV world’s disparate commissioners currently looking for? Which shows cut through the noise and impact audiences? How can creators build sustainable businesses while challenging themselves creatively? These are some of the challenges and questions.

TV Drama Vision 2019 presenting two inspiring days with the most exciting talent and the key executives who are creating the drama of today in the Nordics and beyond. With more than 60 guests on stage, close to 40 upcoming projects and the best networking opportunity in the region.

And last but not least, all this will take place in a new beautiful, historic venue, Stora Teatern, Gothenburg’s former opera house.

Keynote Speakers

A Global Take on Local Originals: Brian Pearson, Netflix
Brian Pearson, Director International Originals for EMEA at Netflix, recently relocated from LA to Amsterdam to strengthen Netflix´s original content effort in Europe. In a keynote talk, he will elaborate on the global streaming service´s plans for the Nordic region and beyond.

A Satirical Eye: keynote Q&A with Armando Iannucci
The creator of HBO’s award-winning series Veep, will start off our seminar. With his extensive background in creating scripted shows at the BBC, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director of In the Loop has a thing or two to say about creating political satire. Armando Iannucci’s critically acclaimed The Death of Stalin will be screening in Göteborg Film Festival’s new International Competition, where the winner will be determined by the audience in Göteborg.

Keynote speaker: Ran Tellem
Ran Tellem has played a pivotal role in shaping and pioneering the Israeli TV landscape, both in terms of importing stand-out international properties and exporting domestic content to other parts of the world. His credits include overseeing some of the most impactful Israeli television series in recent times, most notably Prisoners of War, which became the Emmy® and Golden Globe® triumph Homeland for which Tellem was awarded an Emmy as executive producer. As Keshet’s VP Programming from 2007, and SVP Content from 2014, he was in charge of all Keshet shows on air. Since 2016 he is Head of International Content Development at Spain’s Mediapro Group. Presented in collaboration with Erich Pommer Institute.


Nostradamus @ TV Drama Vision: The Golden Era of Drama

Have we reached peak TV or will new money keep flowing? Can Nordic content continue to travel, and will the interest in original local content remain strong in an increasingly global market? Three of the experts interviewed in this year’s Nostradamus report talk with Johanna Koljonen about the future of the TV landscape.

Chimney presents: Show Me the Money!

The financing of drama series is in constant change. At this session we go through different future funding models and take a closer look at the structure of upcoming Swedish arms trade thriller Conspiracy of Silence (Brain Academy for Viaplay).

Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize – meet the nominees and jury

For the second year, Nordisk Film & TV Fond presents its prize for best TV Drama script, worth 200,000 SEK. Meet this year’s jury and the nominated screenwriters, who share the stories behind their drama series and discuss the art of writing successful drama.

Nominees: Adam Price (Ride Upon the Storm, Denmark), Bjørn Ekeberg, Megan Gallagher and Alexander Opsal (Borderliner, Norway), Rike Jokela, Kirsi Porkka and Jari Olavi Rantala (Deadwind, Finland), Jóhann Ævar Grímsson, Andri Óttarsson and Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir (Stella Blómkvist, Iceland), Karin Gidfors and Charlotte Lesche (The Lawyer, Sweden).

Jury: jury president Walter Iuzzolino, Chief Creative Officer, GSN and curator of Walter Presents, actress Sofia Helin and journalist Kirpi Uimonen Ballesteros. 

The winner of the prize is announced at an award ceremony on Wednesday night.

Every Saga Has Its End: Bron Grande Finale

Now that the original Bron is airing its fourth and final season, it is time for a definitive take on this Nordic series that conquered the world. In this grande finale, professor Annette Hill talks about the show’s global audience engagement; creator/head writer Hans Rosenfeldt, actress Sofia Helin, producer Anders Landström and producer Bo Ehrhardt discuss the creative work behind the show and its impact on themselves and the world, and executive producer Lars Blomgren talks about the series’ international remakes

Drama Series Days at the European Film Market presents Germany´s most talked about series, Babylon Berlin, together with the creator Achim von Borries, CineLink Drama at Sarajevo Film Festival presents Burn, Baby, Burn (Serbia), and Séries Mania presents The Beehive (Lithuania) together with TFL SeriesLab.

Moving to TV Series

In April 2018 SVT will launch a talent lab/work-shop for established writers and journalists. Anna Croneman, Head of Drama at SVT and Katrina Wood, CEO of MediaXChange, presents the lab and reveal a first line-up of participants.
